Pockets, tabs and grommets ... oh MY!

And thou shalt make curtains of goats’ hair to be a covering upon the tabernacle: eleven curtains shalt thou make. (Exodus 26:7)

The length of one curtain was twenty and eight cubits, and the breadth of one curtain four cubits: the curtains were all of one size. (Exodus 36:9)

I haven't used goat hair just yet, but anything that has fabric in it has been up for grabs in my curtain madness. And while things are going okay, I might as well be measuring in cubits for the fits I have in measuring and sewing things that match. Good night!

The pictures below are from my recent set of sewing projects.

To celebrate the YEAR OF THE CURTAIN. (just go with it ... the household item calendar will be the next big zodiac calendar. Year of the Rabbit, meet Year of the Potholder) This was the very first curtain.

This was made from a baby quilt kit that I had purchased, received and then became immediately intimidated by the amount of measuring and precise shapes that needed to be made. I am happy to report that I did cut out the shapes as called for on the instructions when I decided to use it for a curtain. And then I fudged from there. :)

Curtain from material I found at Goodwill. There was a lot of it. So far it has yielded 5 curtains with 2 more on the way!

This came from a dress that I may or may not wear to my brother's wedding. I bought 2 of the same dress (it's one of the long flow-y summer dresses), and then removed the bottom piece of dress 1. So in dress 1 there is a shirt, and two curtains from the dress. And I have me dress 2 to wear. I think these look pretty cool.

I have some other curtain projects here to work on from tablecloths my mom and I bought at Target. Grommets are next!
Back in the day backwards was in. I think I am a late bloomer. Or I have just reached a place where certain social norms don't apply. I never wore my clothes backwards in high school, but have recently started wearing this one shirt I own backwards. I just don't like the neckline anymore. I have also worn dresses as shirts and shirts as dresses in recent years. AND, I have started conditioning and then shampooing (I read about this online and decided to give it a try). If that isn't backwards I don't know what is. It is even hard to type. I wonder if I am breaking some kind of law by not following the instructions on my hair care products. Whatever the reason, I know that my hair has some extra bounce when I ..... wait for it ..... JUMP! JUMP!

I sewed stuff Part 1

I recently explained to my co-workers that I would rather set a reasonable goal, surpass it and look like a rockstar than set a waaaay too ambitious goal, not achieve it and look like a slacker. Example: deadline is 21 days, I finish in 15. Rockstar. Deadline is in 10 days, I finish in 15. Slacker.

I also apply this theory to craft projects. In November I was shopping for fabric to make baby blankets and had the option of buying individual fabric pieces and putting them together haphazardly. Orrrrrr, I could buy these amazing fabric panels that were already assembled and embroidered. I chose the rockstar option. A lady in front of me in a check out line said it was cheating. I think she just doesn't have an inner rockstar. Other sewers ooohed and ahhhed as I got my fabric cut. And then promptly asked what isle I had found the panels in.

An added bonus is that I have co-workers that are skilled sewers. They have become my tech advisors on the do's and dont's of sewing. Thank goodness for them. Here are some pictures of my first sewing projects on the "new to me" sewing machine.

I sewed stuff part 2

This is the first. First to be completed, and first hand stitched blanket binding.

This is more of a grown up lap blanket than a baby blanket. I bought a special rotary blade that punches holes in fabric. Punched holes in the fabric and then crocheted the blanket binding. It looks pretty awesome.

Blanket number three.
This was the last of the first round of blanket making. It was the best binding by far.

Hallmark was Right

I get lost in the greeting card isle every now and then. I go in for 1 card and rarely leave without 4or 5 in my hand. I am glad to live in a time where greeting cards are so fun and diverse. There are e-cards, 3D cards, sparkly cards, sounds cards, plain cards, theme cards, colorful cards. Cards, cards, and more cards. It is a wonder to behold. I would love to write greeting cards. Sadly, I only have bursts of creativity and don’t think I could sustain the needed hilarity necessary to earn a living.

I have received many great cards over the years. I’ve got some friends who are masters of the greeting card find. There is not room to include them all here – but I have included a few that were grand enough to make it to the walls of my cubicle in hopes of brightening an otherwise hopeless canvas wall space.

Inside: Birthday or not, don't go with Paco

Inside: Don't disappoint Paco. Dance!
It seems apparent from card 1 and card 2 that card 1 is from Paco after many years on the road. Young Paco just wanted to dance, older Paco ... well remember Elvis? Nuff said.

Inside: I'll see you when I see you I AM COYOTE

I have spent some time trying to figure out which of the heroines I get to be. I was going to go with the one without the cape - because we all know how dangerous those are! Choking Hazard! But both of them have capes. So I think I'm the girl with the full leotard - because really how many women can truly rock the Wonder Woman bathing suit and not be concious of their thighs!

Anthropomorphic: the attribution of a human form, human characteristics, or human behavior to nonhuman things.

I use my cell phone as my alarm clock - and have discovered that the snooze on the phone is 8 minutes long. This morning the clock alarm volume got louder and louder with each additional snooze. I have not noticed that feature before. It was almost like my phone was yelling at me. “Time to get up – THIS IS THE LAST TIME I AM GOING TO TELL YOU!” Alright, alright. Sheesh! I’m up already.

In thinking on why my alarm was so blasted loud this morning I realized … it knows.

I ordered a new cell phone 3 days ago. My current phone is on borrowed time, and it’s grumpy. It will not go quietly into the night.
