I recently explained to my co-workers that I would rather set a reasonable goal, surpass it and look like a rockstar than set a waaaay too ambitious goal, not achieve it and look like a slacker. Example: deadline is 21 days, I finish in 15. Rockstar. Deadline is in 10 days, I finish in 15. Slacker.
I also apply this theory to craft projects. In November I was shopping for fabric to make baby blankets and had the option of buying individual fabric pieces and putting them together haphazardly. Orrrrrr, I could buy these amazing fabric panels that were already assembled and embroidered. I chose the rockstar option. A lady in front of me in a check out line said it was cheating. I think she just doesn't have an inner rockstar. Other sewers ooohed and ahhhed as I got my fabric cut. And then promptly asked what isle I had found the panels in.
An added bonus is that I have co-workers that are skilled sewers. They have become my tech advisors on the do's and dont's of sewing. Thank goodness for them. Here are some pictures of my first sewing projects on the "new to me" sewing machine.
